Wow....you ignorant old people, lol.
Team Fortress 2 was to be the end all game back in 1998. Some history...Team Fortress Classic is a mod for Quake roughly 1997, it is then made for Half Life 1 where it gains super popularity. Sierra and Valve jump on it and put into development 'Team Fortress 2', it was going to depart from the original in that it was going to be a real war game, much like BF2 with driveable vehicles and modern military equipment. The game was going to still retain Capture the Flag, Assassination, and some of the games of the original but a whole different look, feel and physics. TF2 was also going to break some significant milestones including having in game voice, and to sync soldier's lips to when you spoke. In 1998 there were screens leaking in PCGamer, then it moved to a video available online, and then....nothing...for the next couple of months there was a set release date, yet when it came up to that date it was pushed back (much like the still anticipated Duke Nukem Forever) and back yet again. Eventually PCGamer left TF2 on the books as TBA. Some speculated that Sierra/Valve were busy working on TF2 but were keeping tight lipped about it in a chance to surprise the gaming populous with it. Many gaming magazines would seek out Sierra/Valve's booths in E3 just to see if it was there. Year after year we were losing hope until finally we knew it wasn't coming. In a sense the original TF2 idea that was worked out did not come to fruition, but it did come in as a great, well executed idea.
